DreamPicks – Online Sports Betting Platform MVP Design

DreamPicks is an early-stage startup from California building its online betting platform from scratch. The platform is intended for the US market, and its offer focuses on the most popular sports in the United States, such as NHL, NBA, and Golf. Collaboration with CrustLab was initiated by Ryan Campbell, the Founder of DreamPicks, who found us online when looking for a technology partner with experience in the iGaming industry.

DreamPicks MVP design challenges

The project’s goal was to create a comprehensive UX/UI design of the platform, with all of the details like a clickable prototype and motion design implemented. In addition, the client wanted to find a partner for comprehensive cooperation so that both design and further development were carried out by one team of specialists. An additional difficulty was to design the platform from scratch in a short time frame.

The ultimate goal was to create a white-label product integrated with sportsbooks such as Kambi or LSports, offering a mix of pari-mutuel and sportsbook gambling experiences thanks to a completely different approach to the game logic. A ready-to-integrate solution for the most prominent sportsbook providers in the industry was to be embedded as a dedicated iframe on the bookmaker’s platform. That was a challenge because we had to design a universal User Interface that was meant to be embedded in an external sportsbook app, acting as a standalone feature that was fully integrated with the virtual wallets of players.

How we designed an online betting platform MVP

The client has experience and extensive domain knowledge in the field of sports betting. Before the start of the project, they had many different ideas and questions that we worked on together during several consultation sessions with the participation of an iGaming domain expert and our lead designer.

The next step was to create a complete design project – from ideation to mockups and a fully interactive prototype. We started with a web version of the platform and planned to add a mobile version eventually.

As a part of this project, we provided services such as betting industry consultancy, web app design, UX/UI design, prototyping, and motion design with custom animations. Moreover, we equipped the application with several functionalities that distinguish it from other solutions of this type that are available on the market. One of them is a custom bet slip view and a unique way to place bets. The player always bets on a specific result, mixing a classic sportsbook with a pari-mutuel/totalizator-like approach. Additionally, users can extend their bets on contests using an extra pick, increasing the win amount.

In line with current trends, we opted for dark mode. We used blue and green to emphasize the markers to ensure that wagers were always clear and understandable. Such colors do not tire the eyesight and make players spend more time in the application.

Results

The result of the DreamPicks project is an interactive, clickable prototype simulating all the aspects of an actual web application. Such a prototype could be presented to investors or entities interested in pre-kick-off cooperation. The advantage of the product is primarily intuitive navigation that allows for quick and easy access to specific sports, markets, or the user’s wallet. Most importantly, we created the complete design of the MVP version in less than three months.
